One goal of the Division of Student Affairs is to measure the effectiveness of the programs and services offered by each department in the Division. Assessment begins with mission, strategic planning, addressing national professional standards, establishment of learning outcomes and objectives, and then designing means of measuring the achievement of these.
The Director of Student Relations in the Office of Student Affairs/Student Life coordinates the efforts and activities associated with assessment for the Division. Among the goals of Student Affairs is to have every department complete a formal Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) Self-Assessment Guide review on a pre-arranged cycle. In addition, every department will complete student learning outcomes and assessment plans that will be documented annually through departmental annual reports. Campus-wide student assessments will also be conducted using nationally recognized assessment tools designed to measure student engagement, student health, substance use/abuse as well as using nationally available instruments with comparison institutions to evaluate the effectiveness of housing and dining services. Student Affairs also works with the Associated Students of Eastern Oregon University (ASEOU) to conduct campus surveys to gather student opinions on issues and to obtain feedback on campus services/programs of interest.
