Grant Writing at EOU 

Eastern Oregon University desires to increase grant funding in support of infrastructure, research, creative endeavors, instructional programs, public service projects, and professional development targeted to its mission and Strategic Plan.  Faculty and staff are supported throughout the grant writing and grant management processes.  Faculty grant writers may be eligible for release time for externally funded research or creative endeavors, or may gain additional compensation of up to 20 percent.    A portion of the indirect costs of certain grants may be directed to the grant writer.  Internal funding is available that can support grant writing.  The Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs (OGSP) provides training and pre-award assistance to identify funding sources, develop program designs, write grant proposals, secure institutional approvals, and make grant applications.  The Business Office provides post-award grant management support.  Other EOU programs provide assistance as needed. 

The Proposal Clearance and Approval Process

All applications for external funding must be reviewed and approved prior to submission.  The three-part process that guides grant writers to success begins with the simple on-line (1) Pre-Application Grant Clearance Form.  The second part is the on-line (2) Identification of Institutional Issues Form that helps the grant writer resolve institutional issues.  The final (3) Grant Submission Approval Form is submitted with the complete application.  This three step process is necessary to ensure that we submit high quality, financially sound proposals that reflect the mission, plans and priorities of the University.  Grant writing is just one step in a long planning and, program development process.  Before you begin that process, consult with your Chair, Dean, Vice-President, OGSP and UA to make sure it is the right direction.  See the Ten Step Guide to Grant Writing and other resources on this website for more information.
